1- The Cyber Law Research Centre (CIJIC – in its Portuguese form – hereinafter), from the University of Lisbon School of Law, is the entity responsible for processing the data that is collected on the website cijic.org (hereinafter “Website”) or through messages send by post to the physical address of CIJIC or electronically to e-mail addresses with the domain name “cijic.org” (hereinafter “Messages”).
3- Through the Website or Messages, CIJIC can obtain and process the following personal data:
a) Information provided by you to the Website or by Messages, or by filling out forms or by sending plain text. This information includes, inter alia, what is provided when registering to use the Website when necessary, or to benefit from services provided by CIJIC, such as conferences and other events, courses, newsletters, content placement or others. The information you provide when you participate in any area that involves your subscription or supply of its contents or when interacting with CIJIC – as for example when reporting a problem with the website – it can also be treated.
4- A cookie is a small file – typically of letters and numbers – downloaded to the device from the memory from which you access, when making such access to some websites. Among other information that can be measured through the use of such files, the data are included for recognizing a user’s device. At any time the user can – through its browser – give instructions to be notified when receiving cookies, as well as to block input cookies on his device. Cookies can expire at the end of a browser session (a session corresponding to the period of time which lasts from a user opening a browser window until exiting the browser) or can be stored longer. Cookies help CIJIC on improving the Website and providing a better and more personalized service. The cookies available on the website can be used for the following purposes:
a) Store information about the preferences of each user, allowing to customize the website according to your individual interests;
b) Recognize the user whenever he returns to the Website and, if applicable, his user name or his registration in some service or specific website area.
6- Personal data provided through the Website or through Messages can be used to enable improved use of the Website, namely to notify you about changes to the services or conditions that apply, to provide specific services requested or to manage the user interface of the Website and / or in the interest in research areas covered by CIJIC, enhancing the interaction with the user.
7- In those cases where you have given your specific consent for the purpose, CIJIC can also use your data or allow certain third parties to use your data to inform you about goods and services that may be of interest to you. In this case, both those third parties as the CIJIC can contact you by postal mail, telephone, e-mail or other communication platforms.
8- The data you provide are processed and stored exclusively in the European Union and under full respect for the EU laws.
10- Please note – pay close attention – that if you use a password to access some areas of the Website, you are responsible for keeping it confidential. This password can not be communicated or made available to anyone and you are responsible for ensuring such confidentiality and for implementing the necessary measures to that end.
11- Again, please note – pay close attention – that the transmission of information via the internet is not completely secure, and there is always an associated risk of being seen and used by unauthorized third parties. Once CIJIC has received your personal data, it will use strict procedures and security features to prevent unauthorized access.
12- The law grants you the right to access your personal data held by CIJIC and the right to rectify and update them.
